As Far As Colorado Ski Resorts Go Vail is Faring Better Than Others

An article in today’s Vail Daily was a bit of a boost for Vail.  In comparing ski towns’ sales tax revenue for the month of December, Vail was down the least percentage in sales tax figures.  Vail was down 6.5 percent compared with 5 other ski towns in Colorado.  The worst was Aspen whose figures are down 19.2 percent.  Vail has a few things going for it that are helping it through these tough times.  It has a close proximity to Denver which makes it easy to get to for both Denver residents and visitors to the State of Colorado.  The Epic Pass has made it much more affordable to ski at Vail and Beaver Creek as well and has kept the number of skier visits at a higher level than other ski resorts.  Vail is a world class ski resort which, while it has seen better days, is holding tight during tough times. The 6.5 percent decline in sales tax revenues is not nearly as bad as other areas of the country and, let’s face it, anything under a double digit decrease is impressive in today’s market.
